It’s that time of the year!! ArtPrize 10 is here: a celebration of community, creativity, and COFFEE!
It’s our third year as the Official Coffee sponsor of ArtPrize and this year we decided to choose our Medium Roast Nicaragua as the ~official~ ArtPrize coffee. This coffee comes to us from the San Antonio Co-op in Jinotega, Nicaragua. It is a single origin coffee comprised of green beans from 41 different producers (talk about collaboration!) with farms between 950 and 1150 meters above sea level. The result is a beautiful, approachable coffee with tasting notes of toasted almond, chocolate, and caramel. If you’re looking to pick up a bag, they're available at our 3 cafes (West Side GR, Downtown GR, and Holland), ArtPrize hubs, and select Grand Rapids retail stores.
National Coffee Day
As if ArtPrize season wasn’t exciting enough, September 29th is also NATIONAL COFFEE DAY! Yeah, sometimes “national” days can be a little random (National Chocolate Cake Day? We’re skeptical but here for it), but this is a day worth celebrating! Our team will be hanging out in Rosa Parks Circle from 12-3PM handing out samples of cold brew & ice cream as well as offering up some fun coffee-related games & prizes!
Ice Cream Samples?!
Oh yeah, did we forget to mention? This year we partnered up with Hudsonville Creamery, as a part of their Michigan Artisan Series, to create a new, limited-edition ice cream flavor:
Caramel. Cold. Brew. Ice. Cream.
Trust us, it’s as good as it sounds. This delicious flavor features Ferris cold brew with swirls of caramel butter fudge. Our friends at Hudsonville will be joining us at Rosa Parks Circle on September 29th to offer up samples of this flavor. Big fan of coffee? We’ll also be passing out mini Nitro Cold Brew Floats made with the Caramel Cold Brew Ice Cream!
Celebration with a Purpose
Our team at Ferris is so much bigger than what it may seem. We work with farmers and suppliers around the world to source our coffee and cultivate relationships that last. Earlier this summer, our friends at the San Miguel farm in Guatemala were heavily impacted by the eruption of El Fuego, an active volcano near their farm. As a part of our National Coffee Day Celebration, we will be taking donations that will go directly back to our friends at San Miguel. While it has been a few months since the eruption, their team is still working diligently to find land and housing for families that lost everything to El Fuego.
Art is Everywhere!
We are endlessly stoked to have both of our Grand Rapids cafes as ArtPrize venues for ArtPrize 10! Our West Side cafe is featuring a series of paintings by Marah Rohovit titled “The Nest”. Our Downtown cafe is featuring art from two artists: an oil and cold wax painting by Barbara Hoffman titled “Water in Bloom” & a series of oil paintings titled “The Tomorrow Project” by Mariah Kaminsky.
