  2. SCAA - Booth #1851

We’re so excited to be here at the SCAA Expo in Atlanta! The Georgia World Congress Center is buzzing with excitement over some of the best coffees in the world. Brewers Cup and Barista Competition is tense and the expo center is full of amazing guests and exhibitors.

It’s so humbling to be a part of all of this, and we couldn’t do it without the support of everyone holding down the fort back home in Grand Rapids. Our team really came together to make this all happen! Craig and Ike, the geniuses behind the booth, you guys are amazing!

Also, a special thank you to our friends at Synesso for getting us set up with a new continue reading →

  3. SCAA Expo - 2016

It’s an honor to be here in Atlanta for the 2016 SCAA Expo and US Brewers Cup National Championship. We’re working hard on getting set up, and our Head Barista, Daniel Shoup, is putting the finishing touches on his routine.

If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by booth #1851! We’ll be brewing Dan’s competition SL-28 from Finca Leoncio as well as some of our other favorites. Just in case you can’t find us, we’re the booth with the giant bear! (Special thanks to Erica Lang from Woosah Outfitters in Grand Rapids, MI for her amazing work on our booth this year!)

When we arrived in California, the last of the almonds were blooming. We watched the petal fall as we listened to the loud buzzing bees, brought in for the bloom to ensure successful cross-pollination. Their hives were evenly spaced between trees. After maturing, harvesting, drying... continue reading →

  5. Bee House!

Coffee brewing is as much an art as it is a science. From ratios to TDS readings, to filters, to grind sizes, to brewing devices…well you get the picture. There are a lot of things that go into making a perfect cup of coffee. One of those things that we pay very close attention to is our control over variables.

Removing variables, or minimizing them as much as we can, results in more consistent coffee. By reducing variables, we are able to provide quality cups of coffee over and over again. For us, consistency is key, especially when serving coffee. So, we hit the drawing boards, brewed a LOT of coffee, and tested as many pour over devices as we... continue reading →
