Cold Coffee Season is Here: Your Guide to Cold Brew, Iced Coffee, and Nitro

As the sun starts climbing a little earlier and sticking around a little longer here in West Michigan, we know the shift is coming: hot coffee gives way to cold sips. Whether you're soaking up rays at the lake or powering through a busy morning, a chilled coffee hits just right. Let’s break down your cold coffee options—how to make them, why they matter, and how Ferris helps you fuel your summer days.
Cold Brew Coffee
What It Is:
Cold brew is brewed low and slow—steeped in cold water for hours instead of exposed to heat. The result? A naturally smoother, lower-acid coffee with a bold, rich flavor and a serious caffeine kick. One can of our Ferris Nitro Cold Brew packs 196mg of caffeine (roughly two cups of coffee), making it your go-to fuel for long summer adventures.
How to Make It at Home:
-
Grind Coarse. Use your favorite Ferris coffee and grind it coarsely (think sea salt).
-
Steep It Slow. Mix 1 cup of coffee with 4 cups of water for a concentrate or 1:15 for a ready-to-drink brew.
-
Let It Sit. Steep for at least 18 hours on your counter or in the fridge.
-
Strain. Use a fine mesh or cheesecloth to filter out the grounds.
-
Customize. Dilute with water, milk, or pour it over ice—your brew, your rules.
Iced Coffee
What It Is:
Unlike cold brew, iced coffee is brewed hot, then cooled and served over ice. It’s bright, aromatic, and perfect for when you want that classic cup of Joe—just colder.
Pro Tip: Freeze leftover coffee into ice cubes to avoid watered-down drinks.
How to Make It:
-
Brew your favorite Ferris coffee hot.
-
Let it cool to room temperature or chill in the fridge.
-
Pour over ice and add your creamer of choice. Easy, refreshing, and fast.
Nitro Cold Brew
What It Is:
Nitro Cold Brew is cold brew that’s been infused with nitrogen for a creamy, cascading pour—no milk or sugar needed. At Ferris, we keep it simple: just high-quality coffee and filtered water, brewed and canned right here in Michigan.
Our Nitro Cold Brew includes a nitrogen widget inside each can—a rare feature that boosts the smoothness and gives you that signature “whoosh” when you crack it open. It’s smooth. It’s strong. It’s summer in a can.
“This is a feature that is extremely rare among other cold brew products on the market, and is another differentiating factor for our product,” explains Sam Mirto, Ferris’ Director of Coffee.
